Turkey Hunting

April 15 starts the spring turkey season and Ashlyn and I have been ramping up for the hunt for several weeks. We have been practicing our hen and crow calls and gathering gear from friends. We hunted three times this season and unfortunately never did get one. We hunted two mornings and one evening. While we had success with toms responding to our calls, we never had one come close enough to take a shot. We learned a lot and hope to do better in the fall.

After sitting in our turkey blind for a couple hours and watching deer walk by, Ashlyn asked why we couldn't just shoot a deer. I explained to the her all about hunting seasons and why deer season is in the fall. She sat quietly for moment and then asked me, "Why can't there just be an animal season so we can shoot whatever we want?" I'm sure my laughter scared away several toms. :-)
